LED lights not only appear cool, they?re also environment-friendly, beneficial, and last much longer than most bulbs available on the market. Discover ways to make angel eye rings for your car headlights employing LED light bulbs.
Difficulty: Moderate. You?ll need a soldering gun, drill and Ryobi tools or other power tools for this task. Get help if this is the first time you?re dealing with these instruments.
You will need: LED light bulbs (2x 3.6 v, 20mA), resistor (270 ohms), little blind rod (steel replacement rod), 24-gauge stranded twine, soldering iron and solder, Hitachi power tools with cut-off wheel attachment, drill and also drill bit #150, pliers for trimming wires, reflective tape, transparent tape/painter?s tape, aluminum foil, heat shrinkable tubing, jar cover (exactly the same diameter as the ring), scissors, 12 V regulated power supply, oven.
Mold the Ring
First, estimate the diameter of your car headlights. We?ll make use of a 4-inch diameter circle for this tutorial. After measuring, get a mini blind rod. One mini rod may make two rings. For a 4? diameter light bulb, the rod needs to be 12.5? long (use this procedure: Length = 3.14 multiplied by diameter). Include about 2 extra inches to have handles. Cut the rod using Makita tool with a cut-off rim attachment.
To promote ring brightness, we need to make very small cuts along the flat (back) side of the circle. These types of cuts will refract illumination toward the forefront for greater night time vision. Use the Dremel instrument to make cuts 1.5 mm apart. Continue creating cuts until you connect with the other side of the sphere.
Drill the Hole
We?re now able to link the LED light bulbs. Drill a hole on each edge of the rod to fit a LED light bulb inside. Utilize drill bit #150, and set up to 6000 RPM. To hinder the rod from melting, remove the bit as you go to let it cool. Go on with the process until you have a LED light bulb-sized hole. The LED light bulb has to strongly fit.
Take off the LED light bulb and make the hole a little more invisible by putting a little amount of clear nail polish directly into the hole. This permits substantially more light to go through. Wait a little for the polish to air dry before re-inserting the LED bulb. Try out the bulb with a 12 V regulated power supply.
To trap the LED light and make it obvious even in daytime, use aluminum foil or reflective tape. Seal up the foil throughout the uncut piece of the ring and wrap with heat shrinkable tubing. Heat the tubing in place. Trace the ring on reflective tape then cut out. Strip and then stick the tape at the back side of the ring.
Wire the LED lighting bulbs
Use a resistor (270 ohms). Bind the two LED light bulbs in a series connection by attaching the negative leg of one LED bulb securely to the positive leg of the other LED bulb. Tear off one end of a 24-gauge cord and wrap it around the negative leg of the first LED bulb. Fix into place using soldering gun. Peel off the other end of the same wire and wrap it all around the positive terminal of the second LED. Solder straight into place.
Slice a second wire and place it all-around the negative terminal of the second LED, and solder together. Bring the end of the second wire back to the other part of the ring. Tape the two cables together on the flip side of the ring with painter?s sealant. Cutoff the LED bulb terminal legs. At this point you have a single positive then single negative terminal on one side of the band. Try it out having a power supply.
